Go shorty! How to style summer shorts

By Hannah Eichler

Warmer weather is finally on the way (hurrah!) so it’s time to rethink your summer wardrobe to make the most of the long awaited vitamin D. A pair of summer shorts are a wardrobe essential, and whether you’re heading to a BBQ to the beach or to a festival there’s a style to fit your every need. Check out our fashion editor Hannah’s top tips or summer short styling for every budget…

Festival Fashion

Festivals are back this summer, and a pair of shorts deserve a precious place in your rucksack. The trick is to look for lightweight styles which dry quickly in case of downpours, and durable fabrics that you won’t risk damaging. For extra practicality, check out this season’s cargo shorts which have roomy pockets for your essentials, too. Festivals are the ideal place to experiment with brighter, more fun colours – just team with a band print T-shirt and layer up with a hoody when it gets chilly.

Holiday time

Whether you’re going on a stay-cay or jetting abroad, don’t forget to pack some shorts in your suitcase. We love the fun embroidered styles, beachy blue shades and breathable linen styles which will instantly add a holiday vibe to your look whether you’re digging sandcastles or drinking sangria. When packing, ensure you roll your garments to reduce the need for ironing when you unpack – winner!

Garden party

The summer means it’s well and truly BBQ season, so If you’re having friends and family over for a special occasion or a casual Sunday afternoon, it’s a good idea to add a slightly smarter spin to your shorts look. Tailored chino shorts come in a range of colours and are flattering, too. They’ll look great with a cotton shirt with the sleeves rolled up, or why not layer up with a T-shirt underneath for a more casual style. Just add your BBQ chef’s hat…
